A workshop was held at the College of Dentistry at Al-Qadisiyah University on viral hepatitis and its impact on the field of dentistry.
Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Hassan Ali Murad, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Dentistry held a workshop entitled “Viral Hepatitis and its Impact on the Field of Dentistry.” M.M. Zahraa Rahim Abdul, trainee dentist Anwar Ibrahim Faisal, trainee dentist Adhraa Shaker Khozan, and trainee dentist Hawra Karim Mohammed.
The workshop aimed to identify the risk of viral hepatitis to medical staff, especially dentists, due to exposure to blood and secretions. It also aimed to clarify the transmission routes of hepatitis viruses (particularly B and C) in dental practices. It also aimed to assess medical staff’s awareness and commitment to sterilization, heat sterilization of instruments, and preventive measures. It also aimed to understand the impact of the disease on oral and dental health (such as bleeding, delayed wound healing, and oral complications).
The workshop recommended strict adherence to infection control methods in dental clinics (gloves, masks, goggles, and steam sterilization), mandatory vaccination of dentists and healthcare workers against viral hepatitis B, and periodic examinations of medical staff for early detection of any infection.
