The College of Dentistry at Al-Qadisiyah University Organizes Hope Day Events

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Hassan Ali Murad, the Rehabilitation Unit, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Dentistry, organized Hope Day events for suicide prevention. Two workshops were held, titled “How to Prevent Suicide” and “The Role of Society in Suicide Prevention,” presented by Dr. Baidaa Saleh Hassan, Dr. Lama Hafez Abdul, Ms. Noor Jalawi Jabbar, Ms. Sara Awad Tayeh, and Ms. Noor Mahmoud Majeed.

The events also included an awareness campaign and the distribution of informational posters about the importance of communication and listening to those at risk of depression, overseen by Mr. Alaa Aboud. The aim of these events is to raise community awareness of early warning signs and break down the stigma surrounding mental health to encourage seeking help. The campaign also seeks to train participants in “active listening” skills and how to provide safe initial intervention to direct those most at risk to specialists.
