The Continuing Education Unit at the University of Al-Qadisiyah\u2019s College of Dentistry held an educational workshop titled “The Application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Planning and Distributing Health Services and Dental Centers,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Sura Hamid Yasser.
\nThe workshop aimed to evaluate spatial coverage and identify areas of deficit or surplus in the distribution of dental centers and health services using geographic maps. It also focused on measuring accessibility\u2014specifically calculating travel times and distances\u2014to ensure patients can reach health centers in the shortest possible time.
\nKey recommendations included establishing a unified spatial database\u2014creating a centralized health geodatabase that links all centers and clinics with demographic data and is updated periodically\u2014and adopting spatial analysis for decision-making.
