Workshop at the University of Al-Qadisiyah\u2019s College of Dentistry on Urban Planning and Community Health
\nThe Continuing Education Unit at the University of Al-Qadisiyah\u2019s College of Dentistry held a workshop titled “Urban Planning and Community Health: An Integrated Geographic and Health Perspective,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Sura Hamid Yasser.
\nThe workshop aimed to evaluate spatial coverage and identify areas of deficit or surplus in the distribution of dental centers and health services using geographic maps. It also sought to measure accessibility\u2014calculating travel times and distances to ensure patients reach health centers as quickly as possible\u2014and to clarify future planning by identifying optimal locations for new centers or the deployment of mobile clinics based on population density and actual need.
\nThe workshop recommended establishing a unified spatial database\u2014specifically, a centralized health geodatabase that links all centers and clinics with population data and is updated periodically.
\nIt also recommended adopting spatial analysis for decision-making: moving away from the haphazard distribution of centers and mandating that planning authorities base the opening of any new clinic on GIS standards and maps. Furthermore, it called for staff training and capacity building in GIS software for health sector personnel, as well as the establishment of a dedicated health geography department within health directorates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
