The Government Media and Communication Office at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers launched “Muakkad” today, Monday. It is the first digital government platform dedicated to monitoring circulating news, verifying its authenticity, and combating rumors and fake news.
\nThe platform aims to establish a proactive national system for identifying and verifying misleading information. It facilitates the exchange of information among relevant official institutions through a centralized operational framework, enabling the preparation of responses and clarifications based on reliable, official sources. This ensures a rapid response and limits the spread of fake news, in accordance with clear professional standards that respect privacy and adhere to all applicable legal frameworks.
\nThe launch of this platform is part of a government initiative to enhance transparency, provide accurate information, strengthen public trust in official institutions, and protect public opinion from misinformation\u2014which can cause confusion and harm the public interest.
\nThe General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers calls upon media organizations, as well as administrators of social media platforms and pages, to collaborate with “Muakkad.” It encourages them to adopt the platform as a trusted, official source for verifying the authenticity of news and information before publishing or resharing it. Furthermore, it invites them to engage directly with the Government Media and Communication Office to support fact-checking and corrective efforts, thereby upholding the citizens’ right to access accurate information from official sources.
