Marwa Salman Kadhim
The seminar aimed to raise awareness about infectious diseases associated with dentistry, methods of infection transmission in dental clinics, infection prevention and control procedures, and the role of dentists and healthcare staff in protecting patients. The seminar recommended taking standard precautions and treating all patients as potential carriers of infection. These precautions include hand hygiene, washing hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based sanitizers before and after examining each patient and after touching contaminated surfaces, and sterilizing and disinfecting instruments, especially those that penetrate soft tissues or bone (such as surgical instruments). These instruments should be sterilized with heat, and mechanical cleaning should be emphasized, ensuring that instruments are cleaned of organic deposits before being placed in the sterilizer to guarantee steam reaches all surfaces.
