Training Course on the ELISA Technique at the University of Al-Qadisiyah’s College of Dentistry
The Continuing Education Unit at the University of Al-Qadisiyah’s College of Dentistry organized a training course titled “ELISA Technique,” conducted by Assistant Lecturers Noor Mahmoud Majeed and Zainab Sabah Swadi.
The course aimed to explain the ELISA technique—one of the most important biochemical assays—which relies on the use of antibodies and colorimetric changes to detect the presence of specific substances in a sample. It is designed to detect and quantify peptides, proteins, antibodies, and hormones.
The course recommended strictly adhering to the washing protocol and emphasized the critical importance of the washing step, noting that it should not be overlooked; residual unbound antibodies are the primary cause of false-positive readings. It also recommended providing “pocket guides” and booklets summarizing the assay steps, as well as lists of common problems and their solutions for future reference in laboratories. Finally, the course emphasized the importance of micropipetting skills, as errors in this process are the leading cause of ELISA assay failure.
