A workshop was held at the College of Dentistry at Al-Qadisiyah University on afforestation and sustainable development.
Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Hassan Ali Murad, the Sustainable Development Unit and the ISO Energy Team at the College of Dentistry held a workshop entitled “Afforestation and Sustainable Development: A Green Partnership for a Better Future.” Presented by Asst. Dr. Ahmed Hussein and Ms. Jinan Abdul Abbas, the workshop aimed to raise environmental awareness about the importance of afforestation in supporting sustainable development goals, mitigating the effects of climate change, strengthening partnerships between the public, private, and civil society sectors to support environmental initiatives, and highlighting the vital role of afforestation in improving air quality, protecting soil, and preserving biodiversity.
The most important recommendations include adopting national afforestation programs based on scientific environmental maps that take into account climatic and geographic diversity, integrating sustainable afforestation concepts into educational curricula at various levels, providing incentives for the private sector to support afforestation projects as part of their societal and environmental responsibilities, and launching media and awareness campaigns to promote responsible environmental behavior among citizens.
