A training course was held at the College of Dentistry at Al-Qadisiyah University on XRD Diagnosis and Analysis of Nanocrystalline Chemical Compounds. Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Hassan Ali Murad, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Dentistry held a training course entitled “XRD Diagnosis and Analysis of Nanocrystalline Chemical Compounds: Card Number Matching, Phase Identification, and Sample Size Measurement.” The course was presented by Asst. Dr. Lama Hafez and M.M. Radwan Ali Katea
The course aimed to introduce X-ray diffraction (XRD), one of the most important analytical tools used to diagnose the crystalline structure of solids. It allows researchers to identify the type of crystalline phase and determine the purity of a compound or the presence of multiple phases within a sample.
The importance of this course lies in its connection between the theoretical aspects of X-ray diffraction and practical application in matching patterns with global databases, such as the International Center for Diffraction Data (ICDD) PDF. This helps trainees acquire the skill of analyzing patterns and identifying compounds by card number with precision and professionalism.
The course recommends taking great care to prepare samples properly before sending them to the XRD device, as sample cleanliness directly affects the accuracy and quality of the pattern. It is also important to ensure that the sample is thoroughly washed to remove impurities or suspended solvents, then dried completely under appropriate conditions to avoid the formation of aqueous or amorphous phases that could distort the results.
