The course aimed to identify the types of microbes (bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites) that contaminate water and food, explain the ways microbes are transmitted to humans through water and food, and analyze the impact of contaminated microbes on public health, such as food poisoning, diarrheal diseases, and intestinal epidemics. It also reviewed the factors that contribute to water and food contamination, such as poor storage, environmental pollution, and poor sanitation.
The course recommended the need to enhance periodic monitoring of water and food sources through regular microbial testing, encourage health awareness campaigns about the risks of consuming contaminated water or food, and focus on water treatment and purification in residential and rural areas.
